Pubic Mound Reduction · Monsplasty

Mons pubis liposuction in Istanbul: flatter, refined pubic contour

The mons pubis (also called pubic mound, "Venus mound", or FUPA — fat upper pubic area) is the fatty area above the pubic bone. Excess volume here can create bulging visible in fitted clothing and swimwear, even in slim patients. Mons pubis liposuction (monsplasty) is a discreet, often-overlooked procedure that produces meaningful improvement in clothing fit and personal comfort. Performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal at JCI-accredited hospital. Typically under local anaesthesia with sedation. All-inclusive packages from €1,500.

What is mons pubis liposuction?

The mons pubis (Latin: "pubic mound"; also called Venus mound, mons veneris, or in informal terminology "FUPA" — fat upper pubic area) is the rounded fatty pad covering the pubic bone, located between the lower abdomen and the genital region. It naturally contains some fat as anatomical cushioning, but in some patients the volume becomes disproportionate — creating visible bulging in fitted clothing, swimwear, leggings, and sportswear.

Why mons pubis becomes prominent

Why this isn't talked about more: Mons pubis prominence is one of the most under-discussed cosmetic concerns despite affecting many people. The intimate location creates self-consciousness about discussing it even with doctors. Many patients arrive saying "I didn't know this could be treated." It absolutely can — and the procedure is straightforward, low-risk, and produces meaningful improvement in clothing fit and personal confidence.

Why this is frequently combined with other procedures

Mons + tummy tuck (most common combination)

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) addresses excess abdominal skin and muscle separation but does NOT directly reduce mons pubis. After tummy tuck, the newly flat abdomen creates visual contrast that makes pubic mound MORE prominent — many patients are surprised to find their tummy tuck "made the FUPA worse" because the relative proportion changed. Adding monsplasty during the same surgery prevents this disappointment and produces harmonious lower-abdominal/pubic contour.

Combined mons + tummy tuck cost €5,000–€7,500 — typical recommendation for post-pregnancy patients seeking comprehensive lower-body contouring. Not adding monsplasty to tummy tuck is one of the more common patient regrets we hear about.

Mons + lower abdominal lipo

Mons pubis fat is anatomically continuous with lower abdominal fat — they're the same fat compartment. Treating both regions in single session produces smooth continuous contour rather than treating one and leaving the other. Combined cost €2,500–€3,500.

Mons + labiaplasty

For patients seeking comprehensive intimate aesthetic improvement, mons reduction can be combined with labia minora reduction (labiaplasty). Same anaesthesia session, related anatomical region, complementary aesthetic goals. Combined cost €2,800–€4,500. Recovery longer than mons alone but single procedure.

Mons in male patients

Less common but documented — male mons fullness can create visual impression of a shorter penis (the surrounding fat obscures the penile shaft). Reducing mons fat reveals more of the penile shaft visually without changing actual anatomy. This is a recognised aesthetic indication. Procedure principles same as female. Pricing similar.

The procedure

Anaesthesia

For standalone monsplasty: local anaesthesia with sedation typical (60% of cases) — patient comfortable, faster recovery, can leave clinic within 2–3 hours. General anaesthesia when combined with other procedures (tummy tuck, labiaplasty). Operative time 30–60 minutes for standalone.

Incision placement

1–2 small (3–4mm) incisions placed in the natural lower abdominal crease (where any C-section scar would be located) or just below the bikini line. Both options completely hidden in normal underwear and swimwear. For patients with existing C-section scar, the existing scar can be used for access.

Technique

Tumescent solution infiltration. Fine cannulas (2.5–3.5mm) extract fat conservatively. Typical extraction volume 80–200cc — this is a smaller procedure than body areas. Conservative removal is the priority — over-removal can produce skin laxity and a "deflated" appearance worse than the original concern.

Skin laxity considerations

Mons fat removal can reveal skin laxity that wasn't apparent when the area was filled out. For patients with significant pre-existing skin laxity (post-massive-weight-loss, multiple pregnancies), monsplasty may need to include skin removal in addition to fat reduction — this requires a longer incision and produces a more visible scar (though still concealed by underwear). Discussion of skin elasticity during consultation determines which approach is appropriate.

Compression

Compression briefs / shapewear worn continuously for 3 weeks, then 12 hours daily for an additional 2 weeks. Total duration 4–5 weeks. Lighter compression than body areas. Avoid sexual activity for 4 weeks during healing.

Recovery timeline

Days 1–3

Mild discomfort (2–3 out of 10) — among the more comfortable liposuction recoveries. Walking comfortable. Compression continuous. Soft-fitting underwear/clothing. Avoid prolonged sitting.

Days 4–7

Most patients return to most activities. Most desk workers return to work day 5–7. Compression continuous. Avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise.

Week 2

Most bruising resolved. Compression continuous. Visible contour improvement clearly emerging. Light exercise resumed.

Weeks 3–4

Most swelling resolved. Compression transitions to night-only. Sexual activity cleared (typically week 4 for standalone, longer for combined procedures).

Weeks 6–8

Compression discontinued. Return to full activity. Final contour substantially settled.

Months 2–3

Final result. The improvement in fitted clothing fit, swimwear comfort, and lingerie appearance is most appreciated at this stage.

Frequently asked questions

How much does mons pubis liposuction cost in Istanbul?

Mons pubis liposuction with Dr. Erdal in Istanbul costs €1,500–€2,200 for standalone treatment, €1,800–€2,500 for VASER monsplasty, €2,800–€3,800 for monsplasty with skin lift (significant laxity), €5,000–€7,500 for mons + tummy tuck (most common combination), €2,500–€3,500 for mons + lower abdominal lipo, €2,800–€4,500 for mons + labiaplasty. The all-inclusive package covers surgery, JCI hospital, anaesthesia, hotel, transfers, compression briefs, and 12-month follow-up.

How discreet is the consultation and procedure?

Completely discreet. Initial consultation via WhatsApp with photos sent privately. In-person consultation in private examination room with female nurse chaperone (available on request). Procedure performed under standard surgical privacy. Recovery at hotel — no signs of having had any procedure visible to others. Hotel staff do not know procedure type. Many patients tell only close family about the procedure. The intimate nature of the area is fully respected throughout the entire process.

Will sexual sensation be affected?

No — properly performed monsplasty does not affect sexual sensation. The procedure addresses subcutaneous fat in the mons region, which has no impact on the underlying anatomy responsible for sensation (clitoris, vagina, deeper structures). The only consideration is post-operative healing time — sexual activity should be avoided for 4 weeks during recovery to allow proper healing. After recovery, sensation returns to normal.

Is this the same as the "FUPA reduction" procedure I see online?

Yes — FUPA (Fat Upper Pubic Area) is informal terminology for mons pubis fullness. "FUPA reduction" and "FUPA liposuction" refer to the same procedure as mons pubis liposuction or monsplasty. The medical terminology (mons pubis, monsplasty) is more accurate; the colloquial terminology (FUPA) is more recognisable to patients searching online. Same procedure regardless of name used.

Can men have monsplasty?

Yes — recognised aesthetic indication for men. Male mons fullness can create the visual impression of a shorter penis (surrounding fat obscures penile shaft length). Reducing mons fat reveals more of the penile shaft visually without changing actual anatomy. Procedure principles identical to female monsplasty. Often combined with male abdominal liposuction for comprehensive lower-abdominal contouring. Pricing similar.

Will the mons fat come back after pregnancy or weight gain?

Fat cells removed via liposuction are permanently gone — those specific cells cannot regenerate. However, significant weight gain causes remaining fat cells throughout the body (including mons region) to expand. Future pregnancy can also cause some hormone-driven fat redistribution including to mons area. Most patients maintain results with stable weight. Patients planning future pregnancies might consider waiting until after family planning is complete, though this is not absolutely required — many patients have monsplasty between pregnancies without significant problem.

Is this covered by insurance?

No — mons pubis liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance globally (NHS, Medicare, private insurance, EU public systems). This applies regardless of where surgery is performed. Limited exceptions exist if mons hypertrophy causes documented medical problems (chronic skin infections, hygiene difficulties, severe physical discomfort) — but typical aesthetic monsplasty is patient-funded. The lower cost in Turkey makes the procedure accessible to many patients who couldn't afford domestic pricing.
